Refuting the Claim #1: Misunderstanding How Something Is Made Wrong
This is the start of a series where I will find claims from the internet or literature and refute them. I hope you enjoy our first entry.
"people need to realise that being lgbtq+ is not a choice, and not something to be argued about. sure, you can have your opinion on whether we deserve basic human rights or not (we do), but arguing about whether lgbtq+ people actually exist is a whole different matter.
loads of my friends are muslim. i am not. we have are differences, but we are still human, and perfectly capable of friendship. i don’t follow the same religion and faith as them, hell i don’t even follow a religion. but that doesn’t make any of them wrong, invalid, or ‘weird’ in the slightest. it doesn’t make islam something to be debated. it doesnt, or shouldn’t, mean any of my friends are perfectly acceptable to make fun of or hate. and i’m sure you’ll agree.
and not a single one of my friends has tried to ‘push their ideas’ on anyone or ‘convert’ anybody."
I want to start by pointing out the obvious problem with this statement. While this person tries to show that arguing about beliefs is wrong (even though he fails as we will explain later), he makes the claim that LGBTQ is not a choice without using any evidence or argument to support that claim. You can't just say whatever you please and not support that argument. If you could, I could just as easily say that gravity isn't real and not give any support to that claim.
While I could explain why LGBTQ isn't a choice, that would send this entry into a bit of a tangent, so I shall save that argument for a later time.
The next part of this quote really ticks me off. Not only does the author of this quote completly misunderstands what makes something wrong. Sure, it isn't one disliking something that makes something wrong, but the thing that does make something wrong is a genuine fact. Incidentally, genuine facts are something that the argument against LGBTQ has.
This is honestly one of the most wrong statements I've ever seen online. The misunderstanding of the topic at hand really messes with me. I hope you found this helpful.
