The Argument Against Evil: Should Everyone Be Proud of Who They Are?

The other day, I was scrolling the interwebs and saw this statement:

“Everyone has a right to be proud of who they are, regardless of their faith, sexuality, ethnicity, or gender identity, as long as they're not harming others.”

When I saw this statement, and that the person who wrote it meant what he said, I nearly laughed. This is a very simply contradiction in and of itself, so let’s dive into this.

First, is it wrong to be proud of your sexuality or gender identity? Well, as I addressed in a previous essay, if your sexuality and gender identity is something other than heterosexual and the gender you’re born with, then it is wrong by the Bible’s standards. So if you believe that the Bible is true, then why would you want to be proud of something that is morally wrong by God’s standards? Moreover, if you’re proud of your own sexuality, that can quickly turn into thinking of other sexualities as less.

We can apply similar logic when determining if being proud of your religion, no matter what it is, is ok. Most religions have conflicting beliefs, and obviously on most topics there can’t be infinitely right answers, neither infinitely wrong answer. This implies that at least one worldview has the correct beliefs. So, why would you be proud of something that’s wrong? It’s like knowing the right answer to a math test, and then purposefully putting the wrong answer and then saying “I’m proud I put the incorrect thing on this test”. This example isn’t full-proof, but you get my point.

There’s also the fact that when people want to include all religions and beliefs, they just tend to exclude or speak down on Christianity. Whether it’s because our beliefs don’t say that everyone is perfect and amazing, or it’s because of the way Christians dress their hair, they always tend to speak down on Christianity. They only want to accept and be inclusive of people who want to be inclusive of them, which really isn’t inclusiveness by any stretch of the imagination at all.

And lastly, sure, it isn’t wrong to be proud of your ethnicity, but most people aren’t going to want to go down the street proclaiming the words “I’m proud that I’m white”, and so forth. Truth be told, people from every ethnicity have done truly great and truly evil things.

Hopefully this helps clear this up. One should only be proud of their faith, sexuality, or gender identity if their faith, sexuality, or gender identity is truly morally sound. Preferably by the Bible, but as I haven’t talked about the Bible being the moral standard of truth, I don’t see that many of you who aren’t Christians will apply this in your daily life. However, keep reading, and we shall get to this topic soon.
